FAQs

What is botulinum toxin?

Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein. It works by relaxing the facial muscles responsible for wrinkles and it is applied via an injection. Rhona can inject a single site on the face, or several areas – it all depends on the results you want to achieve. The treatment can also be combined with fillers for extra-gorgeous rejuvenation.

Will my friends know I’ve had treatment?

Not if you don’t want them to. Injectables are often associated with a ‘frozen’ or expressionless look, but it doesn’t have to be that way. When applied by a skilled and licensed practitioner like Rhona, injectables can achieve much subtler, more natural results. And of course, there will be plenty of time to talk in detail about your chosen look at your pre-treatment consultation.

Is it painful?

The injection feels just like having a blood sample taken. Most people describe the sensation as little more than a minor pinch. If you’re worried about discomfort, talk to us about applying a mild topical analgesic before treatment.

How long does treatment take?

Because it’s important to get an accurate picture of your desired results, your consultation will take up more time than the treatment itself. The injections take around 10 minutes and the whole process lasts less than an hour in total.

What about recovery time?

You can get on with your plans for the day straight after treatment. Any swelling or redness usually settles within half an hour or so.

When will I see results and how long do they last?

You’ll begin to see noticeably fewer wrinkles in the treated areas around 3-4 days after treatment, with the full effects taking up to a fortnight. Results usually last for 4-6 months.

What are facial fillers?

Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid (HA) – just one of the skin’s natural youth-giving ingredients which deplete as we age. As well as replenishing HA, dermal fillers smooth and return lost volume and plumpness to the skin. They are especially useful for improving definition around the jawline, cheeks and lips.

Will friends know I’ve had treatment?

Not unless you want them to. When applied by a licensed and skilled aesthetics practitioner, results can be subtle and natural. You can discuss your preferred outcome in detail at an in-depth consultation before treatment.

Is it painful?

Some patients say their skin feels tender after being injected but any discomfort is usually minor and short-lived. We apply a topical analgesic before the procedure and the fillers also contain a mild local anaesthetic to ease any discomfort.

How long does it take?

Your consultation takes up the biggest portion of your appointment, as it’s essential for us to understand what you hope to achieve. The injections take no more than 15-20 minutes and the whole process is around an hour from start to finish.

When will I notice results and how long will they last?

The first thing you’ll notice is mild swelling around the injected site but this quickly subsides. You’ll notice the full rejuvenating effects around a week after treatment. Fillers aren’t permanent and the results typically last for 6-12 months depending on the area treated.

How many injections will I receive?

It all depends on which parts of your face we’re treating, as well as the effects you hope to achieve. We can discuss this with you in detail before treatment.

What about recovery time?

You may experience tenderness and swelling for up to an hour after treatment. In rare cases, some mild bruising can last for up to a week but can usually be concealed with makeup. Generally, you can resume going about your day straight after treatment.

Dermal Fillers

Wrinkles and fine lines aren’t the only cosmetic downside of growing old gracefully. As collagen production slows in our later years, the skin loses its natural volume and elasticity, causing sagging and reduced definition.

Containing natural hyaluronic acid (HA), dermal fillers return lost volume, plumpness and definition. We can apply this versatile treatment almost anywhere around the face including lips, chin, nose and more.

HA fillers are 100% body-safe. The gel-like substance is naturally absorbed by the body over time and you can expect the rejuvenating results to last from 9-12 months. Not bad for a 20-minute procedure!

We usually carry out facial fillers under gentle local anaesthetic. Some patients occasionally experience mild swelling and discomfort but this generally subsides within a day.

A two-week follow-up appointment to check on your progress is all part of our comprehensive aftercare package.
